Maine has been selected as one of four states in the country for the Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program Pilot Project. This pilot will allow 18 pilot schools to purchase frozen, dried and canned fruits and vegetables, in addition to fresh produce, starting in January. The purpose of the pilot is to evaluate the impact on school participation and the consumption of fruits and vegetables by providing additional options. The Kermit Nickerson School and the East Belfast School were chosen for the pilot program. For a complete list of participating schools in Maine, please visit the Maine DOE School Nutrition web page. Other participating states include Alaska, Kansas and Delaware. |
